The Alien and Sedition Acts are something we've talked all around but never dove into! Some people might think it's just one big law. Instead, it's four different laws combined into a type of government approved speech suppression with a side of nationalism thrown in. If you're in the mood for a good head scratcher, this is the episode for you!

Often mocked, but immensely valuable, is the office of the Vice President. It's true, the biggest job of the VP may be being the President of the Senate (which is essentially just breaking ties) but the VP is a super important position with a very interesting past.

In case you're wondering... no, we didn't make it the whole way through without a Nicholas Cage reference.
It's here! We talk all around the Declaration of Independence and even discuss the men who wrote it. However, we've never tackled the subject of the Declaration itself! Join us in this episode as we discuss the ins and outs of one of the most recognizable documents in the country!

I reference another podcast about a relatively unknown guy who signed the Declaration. It's Radiolab and episode is Buttons Not Buttons.

In the last episode we talked about all of the things that Thomas Jefferson (TJ) did before he became the President of the United States. This time, we pick up right after he gets elected as the VP and move forward from there! Super influential dude. Super controversial legacy.

We all know that Thomas Jefferson (or, as we like to call him, TJ) was the president of the United States, right? Well he also lived quite the interesting life before he got to the highest office in the land as well! This episode is all about TJ in his early years up until the man earned himself a chapter in all of our history books.

Daniel Sickles was really influential in American History, and there's a pretty good chance you've never even heard of him. We hadn't even heard of him until just recently and we thought he was pretty interesting.
He shot Francis Scott Key's son. He should have been court-martialed. He disobeyed direct military orders. He kept his severed leg preserved. He served in public office. And he also convinced the USA to preserve Gettysburg.
What an interesting guy...

If you’re going to talk about the First Party System, you definitely have to talk about the Jay Treaty. So that’s what we’re going to do!
Did it ever occur to you that not everything was all wrapped up nicely with a bow after the Battle of Yorktown? Well it wasn’t! There’s still lots of stuff to be taken care of.
In this episode we talk all about the origins of the Two Party System and the Jay Treaty.

Way back in the day there weren't any political parties. And then about 5 seconds later there were. Meet one of the originals! The party of George Washington, Alexander Hamilton and John Adams (as well as many more) gets the Election College treatment in today's episode!

One of the most important things that George Washington every wrote was the letter announcing that he would be leaving the office of the Presidency. Many things he said and thought in his letter can apply today as much today as they did the day he wrote them.
Come along with us as we discuss the farewell address of George Washington!
